Military Model Building Standard Pricing List

Thank you for your interest in our modeling services. Our basic price to build a kit is $150.00 for labor plus cost of materials (see material section for more info) for an out of the box kit. Commission work is most of our business. See bellow for ordering info.

All builders are of a contest building skill level and have to have placed in more than one model show to be considered. We strive for only the best and put our reputation behind every piece we build.

All motorization holes will be filled as a part of the basic build cost. We prefer to drill out headlights and replace with MV lenses that look just like real ones (cool, but extra sorry). All machine gun barrels are drilled out to look more realistic.

We know our prices may seam a bit high but the average model takes us 35-45 plus hours to build from pre-box to shipping. You do the math and figure what your time is worth.

We only work in the following scales 1/48 ($10.00 surcharge) 1/35 (preferred) 1/32, 1/25, 1/24, 1/16, 1/15, 1/8, 1/6, 1/5, 1/4, 1/3, 54mm, 150mm, 200mm.

Paint and Weathering Military Models

All models are painted (single color) and weathered as part of the basic build price. (For camo patterns see below) Model may be weathered and painted in either a wet or dry configuration, your choice. All decals are sealed with a clear coat to protect them.

Weathering is to your level of desire (how dirty do you want it). Our weathering processes are quit extensive and this is where much of the time will be spent. You can have your piece weathered to whatever extent you wish. We use a multi-layered approach to weathering with dry brushing, washes, pastels, over sprays and highlight sprays. Finish can either be in a wet glossy mode or flat and trail blazed looking. We use multiple applications of different weathering paints and materials.

We start with the airbrush and our multilevel painting process that layers and highlights the beauty of your model (camo patterns applied at this time with airbrush). Then add a gloss coat for perfect decal or transfer application. This is then sealed with yet another clear coat gloss or flat depending on the look you want. (Many post WW II tanks were painted in a gloss to semi gloss during peacetime for maintenance and parade reasons).

Next comes the first of three dry brushing applications. Then an overall basecoat wash (This can be a multi layer application depending on the country of operation and the level of dirtiness you want). Followed by local highlighting washes to bring out the depth of the model (multiple applications). Then comes the second dry brushing. Next back to the airbrush for highlight sprays and local weathering. Third, dry brushing to bring out worn metal areas. This is followed up by detail weathering with pastel chalks and custom weathering powders to bring out small details and to add rust, exhaust, and to highlight parts of your model. Then all models get our own personal blend of dust over spray to bring everything altogether.

This process has proven out at numerous IMPS regional shows. We happen to have a special red dirt spray (a mixture of 5 different colors) that we matched up and have taken first place with on a number of my Vietnam M48 variants.

Additions and Extra Detailing Options

Additions:  All additional work above the base level box stock kit is at labor charge for the extra service plus cost of all materials (C.O.M.).

Metal Barrels: $5.00 plus C.O.M.

MV Lens: $5.00 plus C.O.M.

Photo etch: Is an extra $25.00 - $100.00 (plus an hour to find all those tweeze launched parts, at no extra cost. LOL) Plus C.O.M.

Resin: Updates, back dates, or variant changes are $20.00 - $75.00 depending on how involved the kit bashing is. (Resin is highly toxic, special handling and painting required! )Plus C.O.M.

Full Resin kits: We also build full resin kits these run $250.00 - 700.00 depending on scale. Plus C.O.M. (Resin is highly toxic, special handling and painting required!)

Kit bashing: Cost of the kits needed and $35.00 - $125.00 Plus C.O.M.

Custom decals: With print ready artwork $20.00 (digital or photo ready) sizing $5-17.50 extra. Without artwork at our cost plus $25.00.

Special Decals: This is for when you want an aftermarket decal set for a specific tank or Division that is commercially available i.e. Archer Dry Transfers, TL Decals. $5.00 plus C.O.M.

Tracks: Vinyl tracks no additional charge part of base price. Individual link tracks add $40.00 to $60.00 (depending on how much preparation time) plus cost of tracks if not supplied with the kit, i.e. Modelkasten, Friulmodel, AFV Club, etc. Plus C.O.M.

Camouflage Paint: Because camo requires additional painting time we charge extra for these services based on the scheme you want. They very from a basic two-tone American WW II scheme ($20.00) to a Korean War American tiger face paint scheme ($95.00) for example this later one adds about five hours to the painting process. A NATO four-color camo scheme adds about $35.00. Plus C.O.M. Example of a $75.00 Korean Tiger face camouflage scheme can be found at our old website home: Example please click here.

Car Paint and Polish: Airbrushed painted with color of your choice and clear coated depending on paint color picked (flat paint Only). Then hand polished to a mirror shine, waxed and finish ultra buffed. $135.00 Plus cost of any model prep time i.e. gluing the parts together and sanding, plus C.O.M.

Zimmerit: Well what can we say about Zimmerit? It is probably one of the single biggest improvements you can make to the authenticity of a WW II German tank and it just looks downright cool. That and it takes a lot of time and patients. We have a lot of one and not very much of the other, lol. So needless to say it cost more but well worth every penny. So, add $40.00 to $65.00 to the base price plus C.O.M.

Figures: Figures 1/35 are at $35.00 a piece or 4 @ $125.00 plus cost of figure sets. This price is for assembly, minor alterations and for painting of your figures. Large-scale figures are at $150.00 in addition to the basic build labor. Plus C.O.M.

Vignettes:  Add an additional $10.00 to $75.00 for vignettes depending on how elaborate the assembly and additional painting is (size and detail) also add the cost of the figure/s from above. Plus C.O.M.

Stowage: Adds anywhere from $5.00 to $45.00 depending on how buried with stuff you want it. Example of a $45.00 tank plus C.O.M. @: Example please click here.

Bases: A simple wood bass finished and sealed $50.00. One of our KC Kastings bases or a Kancali, Verlinden or Custom Dioramics bases on a wood base is $72.00 - $175.00 plus C.O.M.

Modeling Materials Cost

We value and try to support our local hobby shop; it is a great asset both for merchandise but also information. When at all possible we will buy kits from them as we have always found their prices fair and reasonable. When not available through our local shop we do have a few sources both mail order and Internet based. We also use eBay for hard to find kits or out of production kits.

All materials are at retail cost or eBay, websites and mail order at cost Plus 10%. If you supply kits and aftermarket sets, add $7.50 handling fee. We do not prefer this method, because if there are any problems with the kits or other detail parts, we have no recourse except to send it back to you for replacement and this can be very time consuming. We aim to finish your project ASAP. It can also be costly for you because you pay all shipping charges both ways when you chose this option.

Armor Model Research Charges

We have a rather extensive library of armor books (all the Hunnicutt books except one) and magazine articles on a wide variety of AFV, APC and soft skins. But times do come up when someone is looking for something off the beaten path or we just haven't modeled before. When this occurs we charge a one-time fee for research of $15.00.

This is to help offset the cost of books and time spent on the Internet doing research so as to have a good working knowledge of the vehicle in question. We know this may seam somewhat unusual but we are not going to get rich building your model or doing research. Sorry but our heads only have so much room for stuff.

Anytime you can supply photos of what you are looking for especially if a particular vehicle is desired it would be helpful. This can be in the way of Digital images or you can mail them to our mailbox, although this will add time to your project. Try to get at least four to five angles whenever possible of a vehicle, if you want the tank that you drove etc.

A detailed written description is also helpful if you want a particular vehicle if you do not have any photos or only have limited angles. Try to be particular as to the placement of markings in relationship to objects that don't move such as fenders, air intakes, hatches, etc.

Shipping Your New Scale Model Charges

All 1/35th scale assembled kits are delivered in the USA for $10.00 USPS Priority Mail, which includes Delivery Confirmation (2-3 day delivery). This is for the lower 48; Alaska, Hawaii, FPO/APO are an extra $2.50. No Delivery Confirmation on FPO/APO is available.

Overseas shipping is via US Postal Service Airmail at actual cost plus 25% of shipping as a handling fee (this option does not provide insurance, sorry can't get it)(7-10 day delivery). Also at a substantially higher cost is USPS Global Priority Mail (3-5 day delivery) but insurance is available. Airmail is about $17.50 Global Priority Mail is about $37.50 with $150.00 insurance, exact amount calculated at time of delivery this amount is only a reference point.

Further customer assumes all shipping cost for all materials and handling for said material as stated in the materials section. Basically, if it needs to come or go from our location you are footing the bill. This does not count the cost of going to the hobby shop this is at our expense and pleasure.

Insurance is required in the USA at the rate of $1.30 per $50.00 of insurance. ($150.00 of insurance would be 3 * 1.30 = 3.60) It is an option internationally with the use of Global Priority Service and is highly recommended.

Delivery of Your Armor Model

Delivery lead-time is between (5-8 weeks ARO) on average after receipt of payment. But this can very slightly with the level of the options you request. Plain and simple the more stuff you add the longer it takes that's why the price goes up with options. We do strive to get you your project as soon as possible.

Rush service is available (3-5 weeks ARO) but our weathering process is extensive and can only be done right with a certain amount of time (can't rush the amount of time it takes for paint to dry properly between processes). This service is at a 25% premium and is quoted only if our schedule will permit with out affecting our previous orders.

We strive for only the highest of quality and this cannot be rushed beyond a certain point. We want a model you could enter into a contest and place with or worthy of a museum shelf, your museum.

Terms of Sale

Terms are all material cost up front. We accept USPS Money orders (only and only in the USA) and PayPal only internationally (PayPal preferred). Labor due at time of delivery normally. Exceptions to this rule are when you order something off the beaten path (uncommon). Because it would be difficult for us to turn around, sell your project, and get full price for it on eBay we require half the labor cost up front. This way if we have to sell it, we will not take a hit for the full price.

International sales welcome. All foreign sales with the use of PayPal in U.S. Dollars Only no exceptions.

All spare or leftover parts become the property of Thenoblehaus.
